This black lacquer cabinet dates from the early 19th century and the style is from Shanxi province in Northern China is made from catalpa wood. The age of this piece can clearly be seen from the beautifully lacquered interior and back of the cabinet which is covered in a muted red lacquer. The lacquer on the doors has worn away in places revealing an undercoating of burgundy lacquer and in some
